Afanfryn Camping is a small certified campsite located in the Cambrian Mountains of West Wales, around 12 miles from the coastal town of Aberystwyth. Run by owners Mick and Niki Cronin, the site offers a quiet countryside setting next to a working sheep farm.
Situated on a hill within a recognised Dark Skies area, the campsite provides open views across the surrounding landscape. With just a small number of pitches, it offers a quieter alternative to larger camping parks.
Afanfryn Camping is open exclusively to members of the Camping and Caravanning Club, though visitors can join the club on site if needed.

Directions from the campsite owners
From Aberystwyth follow A44, turn left onto A4120 and immediately right onto B4340 towards Trawsgoed. Follow B4340 until signpost Llanafan on left. Continue through Llanafan village and continue for 1.5m into Brynafan. turn left at crossroads and follow road turn left at first driveway.

Devil’s Bridge and the Vale of Rheidol Railway
Around three miles from the campsite, Devil’s Bridge is known for its dramatic waterfalls and unusual stacked bridges spanning the gorge. A series of paths leads visitors down into the wooded valley where the River Mynach cascades through a deep ravine.
From the nearby station, the heritage Vale of Rheidol Railway runs steam trains through the hills to Aberystwyth, following the river valley on its route to the coast.
Aberystwyth
The seaside town of Aberystwyth sits around 12 miles away on the Cardigan Bay coast. It has a long promenade, independent shops, and a working harbour.
Visitors can also take the historic cliff railway to the top of Constitution Hill for views across the town and coastline.
Hafod Estate and The Arch
Walking routes through the Hafod Estate provide access to wooded valleys, riverside paths, and historic landscape features created in the 18th century.
One well-known feature is The Arch, located near Cwmystwyth, where several trails pass through mature woodland and open countryside.
Strata Florida Abbey
The remains of Strata Florida Abbey lie to the south-east of the campsite. Founded in the 12th century, the abbey once played an important role in Welsh religious and political life.
Today, visitors can walk among the ruins and explore the site, which also became the burial place of several Welsh princes.
